From The East June 2010 The Flag
Brethren:
Every American Mason loves and reveres the Flag of the United States of America.Every American Mason desires to show that love and reverence in respectful
and reverent treatment of the symbol of this nation. A Flag should be displayed in every open Masonic Lodge. A Majority of Grand Lodges has so legislated; where no legislation
is a mandate, brethren display the Flag for the love of it. It can be said that the American Flag be as much a part of an open Lodge as the Altar and the Great Lights,
Charter and aprons. There is etiquette in the treatment of the Flag which has all the sanction of law. The Flag should never
be draped over the Altar or around it. Not even the Flag can add glory to the three Great Lights; not even the three Great
Lights should rest upon the flag.
Flag Day is June 14th. It commemorates the adoption of the Flag of the United States, which happened that
day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. To date there has been twenty seven different versions of the
Flag. The current version of the Flag dates back to July 4th, 1960 after Hawaii became the fiftieth state. Remember to fly your Flag high and proud not just on
June 14th, but every day. As always remember the men and women of our armed forces who have fought for our Flag
and the very freedoms we enjoy today and every day.
See you in Lodge. Bring a friend. Sincerely & Fraternally, P. Brian Sisz Worshipful Master
